around the corner – the vinyl

For the presentation of our new CD called ‘around the corner’  we “exhibitioned” some sounds we used to make the cd, in an isolated form. We put up some listening situations like the lazy chair, the terras, the carpet, and even a bed, to mime some every day(/night) arrangements, where we gave the possibility to listen to the unmanipulated sound.  There was a list documenting where and when they were recorded, with what equipment, and usually a small description of what it was. If people liked one sound particularly well, or if they had some special relationship with it, we offered the possibility to have it cut on vinyl. To keep the unique nature of the moment of recording we decided to not make multiple copies of one particular sample. So every item would remain unique as well. We chose vinyl because it is a medium which is accessible for already more than 100 years, and in doing so will probably survive the harddisk. So it was done, we made a sample to put on display.

The 12″ cut was delivered in a great looking custom glass covered cardboard box, made by friend artist Juerg Steiner. It was a great initial succes, and one we thought would be nice to show as a work of art on our homepage. To listen into the isolated samples used on our disc, they are all listed down here, as displayed on the exposition. Best enjoyed with headphones.

So we are pleased to be able to give the possibility to access this material on our webspace for those who have an interest in it. If you develop more than an interest please contact us at morfrom [at] 121234 [dot] net. We will be happy to make one, only for you, too. Of course, we can not garantee the availability of all clips, since some are owned already.
